It's great to have you here and congratulations on your pregnancy!
I'm Katy, Hypnobirthing Practitioner, Health Coach and Mum to one treasured little toddler. It's my mission to help pregnant couples become the best birthing team possible, so you can have beautiful, calm and joyful births - and feel empowered and happy about the birth you have.
After having the most incredible birth experience I could hope for, I knew sharing HypnoBirthing with other women was what I wanted to do. I delved into the world of positive birthing and have devoured as many books on the topic as I can find. With a strong belief that healthy women, if given the right support and relaxed environment, can birth their babies calmly and with ease, I aim to help you and your birthing partner become the best birthing team, so you can handle your birth - no matter what twists and turns you may face.
Prior to having my baby, I completed a Masters in Health Psychology and worked in mental health promotion delivering workshops to consumers and health professionals on lifestyle choices that build resilience and boost mental health. My Psychology background and understanding of the minds influence on the body is one of the reasons HypnoBirthing appealed to me when I was searching for birthing classes.
I'm originally from England and feel so fortunate to call Australia (Palmyra, WA - to be exact) my home, where I've lived for several years with my husband. Aside from being a passionate positive birth advocate, I'm also an aspiring environmentalist and love cooking. I'm definitely a wannabe yogi but it's something I'm yet to master. I love reading a good psychological thriller and have an incredible interest in foetal psychology. That's just a little bit about me, if you want to know more about me or HypnoBirthing please get in touch at .
I'm trained in the Marie Mongan HypnoBirthing method, the original and founding HypnoBirthing program for pregnant mothers and their birthing partners, accredited by the Royal Collage of Midwives.
I'm an accredited Health Coach and a strong advocate for holistic health and believe that plant foods can help us transform our health. Check out my events to learn more about healing postpartum foods and scroll through the blog for some delicious health promoting recipes.
Masters in Health Psychology and BSc. Psychology (Hons.)
I studied Psychology in the UK and went on to specialise in Health Psychology. Healthy Psychology takes a holistic approach to addressing many common health epidemics, with a focus on prevention- areas of interest to me where pain management, sexual health, foetal research and childhood obesity.
Additionally, I have been trained in the delivery of psychological interventions and have experience working in community mental health and mental health promotion.
Hypnobirthing is a comprehensive antenatal course. It provides you with the skills and tools to feel prepared and excited for your birth. HypnoBirthing aims to eliminate the fear and anxiety women commonly feel about birth, through physiological education, breathing, relaxation and visualisation techniques.
It's a course designed specifically for pregnant woman and their birth partners/companion, so you can feel supported and empowered during your birth no matter what twits and turns your birth takes.
Reported Benefits of HypnoBirthing
Shorter labour and birth times
Fewer surgical births
Higher number of calm, unmedicalised births
Energised mums post a calm and gentle birth
The HypnoBirthing course is delivered over 5 sessions allowing you lots of time to practice, get comfortable with all the techniques and revisit anything you are unsure about.
I suggest starting HypnoBirthing between 20-24 weeks -so you have plenty of time to get prepared (if you are only finding out about HypnoBirthing now and are much later in your pregnancy - please get in touch to discuss the best options for you).
Hypnobirthing also discusses:
Breathing techniques that help you through all stages of birth and keep you and baby calm
Releasing any fears you have around birth
How to reduce the risk of episiotomy and tearing during birth
Natural techniques to start labour if you go beyond your estimated due date
How to safely reduce the need for medical intervention, but also when it's time to let medical staff intervene
How to stay calm, relaxed and in control - regardless of what happens and have a positive birth.
Hypnobirthing includes aspects of self hypnosis, a process where you stay fully conscious and in control, whilst learning to quickly relax.
No one can promise you a 'perfect' birth, but HypnoBirthing will allow you to approach your birth knowing you can have a calm, relaxed and positive birth.
